It feels like my life is spent doing DIY now. This weekend we took a break from doing work on the house. How did we spend it? Welcome 2012!
Despite the recession and seemingly endless bad news on a wider, country-wide and global scale, last year was one of the best years of my life.
This is a bit of a smugfest, so apologies for that. But it’s been a good year. I’ve had some years which have been pretty crappy so I feel doubly appreciative of everything I was blessed with in 2011.

Ah, a long weekend in the Alps this weekend. Some friends I went to the France/Switzerland border to carry things into storage at one of my friends’ mum’s house. But that was just the excuse. The real reason was to eat cheese, drink wine, and make puppets.

Another lovely weekend spent in the capital. The plant that my cousin gave me for my birthday back in January is coming back into bloom, just as our tomato plant is coming to an end. We haven’t had a huge amount of tomatoes from it this year, but those we have eaten have been sweet and delicious.

It looks as though we may have to leave the flat we only just moved into. Our landlady has decided to sell up and thought she would give us very early notice (even though officially, she can’t ‘evict’ us until late October). Very sad, but it does throw up the question about buying a place.

Cornwall
I’ve never been to Cornwall before, but it is stunningly beautiful. The water is such a clear, turquoise colour! So pretty. Flip it’s been busy. Severe understaffing issues hopefully on their way to being resolved, but in the meantime it has been all go between work, Latitude (for work), and wedding planning. Apparently venues are already booked for September next year!?

On Thursday Peter and I got engaged! I have told the story too many times now, so am not going to write it all down right now (maybe another time), but needless to say it was very romantic. He got down on one knee, and of course, I said yes! Very exciting times, but there is quite a lot to organise with a wedding, isn’t there? Ah, summer
What a gorgeous weekend. The weather was perfect - hot, but dry.
I spent a lot of time in Clapham Common this weekend, going for a long walk on Sunday morning and then enjoying some cava with Peter there on Sunday evening. It’s a good people watching spot. There was a lot of topless men action.

Semi stressful weekend with Peter’s parents staying with us and our parents meeting each other for the first time, but it felt like it all went well in the end. We did do ENDLESS amounts of cooking, which was brilliant, but also involved a lot of washing up. Last night we had Thai take away and threw away all the dishes it came in. Very wasteful, but felt necessary.

I have come back from Toulouse only having gained one pound in reality, but still feeling about ten pounds heavier. We ate so much cheese. We drank so much wine. Louise, I went to Staines! Ok, I only went there to walk out of it, but it didn’t seem so bad… it had a nice pelican (?) statue and some chavvy pubs… Peter and I went for a long walk (9 miles) on Sunday, from Staines to Windsor all along the river. It was so beautiful!

My technology is shit. My broadband seems to only work in fits and starts. I had the router replaced, which then broke, so as a ‘what the hell’ solution, I plugged the old, apparently broken one in, and now it seems to work just fine. If only the same thing would happen to my laptop, whose screen has gone so dark you have to hold it at a 210’ angle just to see what’s on...

Holiday + Miscellaneous Bits

Peter and I celebrated our first anniversary with a long walk in Hampstead Heath and an amazing dinner at Nopi, the new Ottolenghi restaurant. God the food was good. Every single mouthful was delicious, and the prosecco was pretty damn tasty too. I will definitely be going back.
