Bits of my weekend
A brilliant Friday night with old friends at Rocks in Norwich Bored on the train in the Norfolk countryside Sunday breakfast in my favourite coffee shop Wandering the streets up to Angel An amazing birdhouse - the bottom boxes are for birds, some are for squirrels and some are for insects like butterflies or bees. Kings Cross in THE SUN! I haven’t seen the sun in weeks. ...

Meh, some stuff.
It is freaking cold outside. Here’s some stuff I’ve been thinking about lately. This project is still pretty great to work on. It seems to be all-consuming at the minute, but it’s about food, which is my favourite subject. I’m going to Norwich tomorrow to see some old friends. I feel like I have seen them all recently, but realised yesterday that I haven’t been back...

Chorizo and chicken
As part of my new year resolution to cook more from my cookbook, tonight I cooked a chorizo, chicken and potato traybake from Nigella’s Kitchen. It took 10 minutes prep and an hour in the oven and was DELICIOUS! Yum Yum Yum.

Want: Library card catalogue
A set of old library card catalogue drawers. I saw these 3 times today and each time thought “I want!”. I don’t know what I would put in them. I have seen people store wine in them, which would be cool, but I would probably just use them to store my multitude of tat - old diaries, glasses, cards, coloured pencils, etc. Want.

Book review: Trespass
I had no idea that Rose Tremain was a suspense/crime writer. I picked this up thinking it was going to be very literary and serious and it turned out to be a slightly advanced Ruth Rendall! Still, I do love a good thriller, and this one was great. I read it in about three sittings. I wouldn’t say this was an amazing book but it would be perfect for a plane ride and worked great on the...

Wonders of the internet
After seeing this on a blog I really like, I left a comment saying how much I liked it and I wish that Amy would start selling them. The next day I got followed by Amy on Twitter and she messaged me to say she was taking commissions! I e-mailed her, she e-mailed me back, and now I have my very own Constellations of the Northern Hemisphere being strung together out in Portland, Oregon! I do love...

Book review: Sister
Beatrice is called back to the UK from her home in New York by her mother, who is frantic that her younger sister has gone missing. When the body is found, the police are convinced it was a suicide: Tess was pregnant and when she gave birth three weeks early, the baby was dead. Her psychiatrist has diagnosed her as having severe post-natal depression and as far as everyone but Beatrice is...

Book review: South Riding
We publish this, so that might make me biased. But I really enjoyed this! It didn’t sound that promising - the trials and tribulations of the South Riding council as they appoint a new headteacher - but it was really wonderful. Possibly a TAD over patriotic (it was written in the 1930s), but wonderfully written characters and a really engrossing ‘Sunday night costume drama’...

Thank you!
Thanks to everyone who made my 30th birthday feel exciting. I got loads of messages on Facebook and e-mails and text messages and even a few phone calls (!). At home I was given breakfast in bed, surrounded with presents and taken out for a delicious lunch and pastry. Then at work my friend Louise baked up an amazing maple syrup cake and the team gave me three really brilliant presents. Somehow,...

Reasons to be grateful
Because frankly, I need them: today was a shite day. My boyfriend is brilliant and still wants to move in with me despite a small birthday party related tantrum that I may or may not have had (twice) Although the water is STILL OFF at my flats, Peter managed to score me another venue for free on no notice which is pretty brilliant. When I heard the water was fixed, I did not immediately say...

Resolutions for my 30th year
Wear something other than jeans for at least 7 days every month. Preferably in a row so I have one full week Jean-free Stop complaining. I will still complain if my food is cold and needs to be sent back, but generic whinging is banned. Cook something new from my endless cookery book library at least once per week. More later.

2010
January: Apparently I didn’t take very many photos in January. I’m not surprised. It was a ghastly month. But I did take this snap of my friend Louise, when we were dancing at Dick’s Bar in Soho after the Book Club Boutique ended, before the bar kicked us all out. It’s pretty grainy, but I like it. February The beginning of the year was generally a bit dire, but there...

December highlights
It’s been an action packed last week or so, with Peter and I having fake Christmas, beating the snow and heading out to Trinidad to spend time with my family, and then arriving back in London just in time for New Year’s Eve with some of my favourite people. Highlights were: A great fake Christmas with Peter - amazing wrapping, lovely presents, champagne, smoked salmon, and osso...
