I believe this is what is known as the Perfect Holiday Read.

When a fire breaks out in an old village church, a wall crumbles to reveal a hidden cavity holding an ancient book. The book is written by an old and long-dead monk. By following a map they find within, two friends come across an archaeologist’s wet dream: a cave full of paintings more vivid and detailed than anything they have seen before, painted thousands of years before the first recorded cave paintings.
Soon the close vicinity is full of teams determined to study the cave and find out more about them. But why are the locals so hostile to their presence? And is the string of accidents killing them off one by one really just a coincidence?
Er, my mind might have been a bit soft from the heat in Spain (see: Twilight review), but I really enjoyed this - just good, cheesy fun. Definitely going to see if I can pick up his other books, The Book of Souls and Library of the Dead, from work.
